The Family Capital 750 Family Businesses: China becomes a big player

One big trend in Family Capital’s survey of the world’s top family businesses is the number of China-based companies on the list. This suggests China might be developing a coherent and robust family business culture, which will help to sustain the world’s second-biggest economy in the years ahead.

Out of the 750, 57 were companies based in China, including Hong Kong, and 41 in China, excluding Hong Kong. OK, this might be behind two family business superpowers, the US with 173, and Germany with 119, but China is catching up.

In the years ahead, it’s likely to catch up even further. If that happens, China’s economy will broaden out, and become more robust. Probably something for policymakers and business leaders in the West to consider as well as all the other pressures the Chinese economy is placing on Europe and the US at the moment.
