This week’s family investment deals

James Murdoch is set to invest up to $1 billion into media groups, according to media sources. Morduch recently set up an investment office called Lupa Systems, which is based in New York City, and these investments are expected to be channelled through the group. Lupa has already been connected to investments in India.

F-Prime Capital Partners, a venture group linked to the Johnson family, has led an investment round in Embark Veterinary. Also participating in the Series A round worth $10 million in the US company was Section 32, an investment firm set up by Bill Maris.

Thrive Capital, an investment group owned by Joshua Kushner, has invested in Cityblock Health, a US healthcare group. Thrive was one of nine investors in a Series B round worth $65 million. Thrive has also invested in an insurance-tech group called Lemonade. Thrive was one six investors in a Series D round worth $300 million for the US group.

Nima Capital, the family office of Suna Said, has backed a initial coin offering in blockchain group Flexa. Nima was one of four investors in the ICO, worth $14.1 million.

Horizons Ventures, an investment group owned by Li Ka-sing, has invested in a UK content information group called Trint. Horizon led the Series A investment round worth $4.5 million.

Inbox Capital, a Swedish investment group owned by entrepreneur Martin Wattin, has invested in Billogram, a online billing group. Inbox backed the Swedish group with SK38 million ($4 million) in funding.

Prasid Uno Family Trust the family trust of Tushar Kumar, founder of Medlife, has invested $17.6 million in a spinoff company called Medlife International.

Pritzker Group Venture Capital, which is owned by J.B. Pritzker, has invested in BacklotCars, a US auto tech group. Pritzker was one of eight investors in a Series B round worth $25 million. Also participating in the deal was the Chaifetz Group, the investment office of Richard Chaifetz, and Rise of the Rest, an investment group backed by Steve Case.

Omidyar Network, the impact investment group owned by Pierre and Pam Omidyar, has invested in WhiteHat Education Technology, an India education tech group. Omidyar was one of two investors in a seed round worth $1.2 million.

Alexandria Venture Investments, a private investment vehicle of Joel Marcus, has invested in Insitro, a US biotech group. Alexandria was one of nine investors in a Series A round worth $100 million for the group. Also backing the venture was Bezos Expeditions, the investment office of Jeff Bezos.

Solon Mack Capital, the family office of the Mack family, has invested in Super, a home service group. Solon was one of seven investors in a Series B round worth $20 million.
