This week’s family/private investment office deals

Private Equity

EQT, the private equity group owned by the Swedish Wallenberg family, has invested in Epidemic Sound, a music company. EQT along with Blackstone invested $450 million in the Swedish company. 

Costa Asset Management, an investment group owned by the Australian-based Costa family, has invested in LAB Group, a fintech platform. Costa committed an unspecified amount to the Australian group. 

Unspecified Rounds

The Kraft Group, the investment/holding group owned by Jonathan Kraft, has invested in Songclip, a music API and SaaS platform. Kraft was one of 11 investors committing $11 million to the San Francisco-based group. 

Arena Holdings, a family office owned by US investor Feroz Dewan, has invested in Weee!, a California-based online grocery delivery platform. Arena was one of four investors committing $300 million to the group.  

Secondary Market

HH Investments, a Singapore-based investment group owned by Maarten Hemmes, has invested in Eat Just, a San Francisco-based plant-based food company. HH investment commitment was disclosed. 

Post-IPO Equity

Ratan Tata, possibly through his investment group RNT Associates, has invested in Pritish Nandy Communications, a media group. Tata committed an unspecified amount to the Indian group. 

Seed 

FRIBA Investment, a German investment group owned by the Lürssen family, who owns the eponymous superyacht company, has invested in MIRAI Foods, an alternative food company. FRIBA was one of six investors committing $4.5 million to the Swiss startup.  

Perivoli Innovations, a UK-based investment group owned by James Alexandroff, who co-founded a Singapore-based asset management group, has invested in Legislate Technologies, a contracts platform. Perivoli was one of two investors committing £2 million to the UK-based startup.  

The AlTouq Group, a Saudi Arabian investment office of the AlTouq family, has invested in GrubTech, a SaaS platform for restaurants. AlTouq Group was one of seven investors committing $3.4 million to the Dubai-based startup.

Series A 

DNS Capital, the investment office of Gigi Pritzker and Michael Pucker, has invested in Nimble Robotics. DNS was one of four investors committing $50 million to the San Francisco-based group. 

RZC Investments, owned by brothers Steuart and Tom Walton, scions of the family that founded Walmart, together with Narya Capital, founded by JD Vance of Hillbilly Elegy fame, have invested in AcreTrader,  an agricultural real estate investing platform. The two investors were among five committing $12 million to the Arkansas-based group. 

The Kraft Group, the investment/holding group owned by Jonathan Kraft, has invested in River Financial, a bitcoin platform. Kraft was one of eight investors committing $12 million to the San Francisco-based group. 

Belgium-based Verlinvest, the family investment group for the Spoelberch and de Mévius families, has invested in Juicy Chemistry, an Indian consumer brand. Verlinvest committed $6.3 million to the group.

Udian Investments, a New Zealand-based investment group owned by the Naidu family who own a haulage company, has invested in Cymbio, an e-commerce platform. Udian was one of four investors committing $7 million to the Israel-based group. 

Series B

The Indian arm of Omidyar Network, the impact investment group owned by Pierre and Pam Omidyar, has invested in YAP, a fintech platform. Omidyar was one of six investors committing INR732 million to the Indian-based group. 

STS Ventures, an investment group owned by German investor Stephan Schubert, has invested in rebike1, a digital marketplace for used E-Bikes. STS was one of three investors committing €10 million to the German group. 

Pritzker Vlock Family Office, owned by Karen Pritzker and Michael Vlock, together with Longley Capital, an investment group owned by US-based investor Denise Longley, have invested in Iridia, a nanotechnology company. The two investors were among nine committing $24 million to the Californian-based group. 

F-Prime Capital, the Johnson family (Fidelity owners) owned venture fund, has invested in OZiva, a plant-based food company. F-Prime was one of three investors committing $12 million to the Indian group. 

Series C

HOF Capital, a New York City-based venture group, set up by Onsi Sawiris, the son of Egyptian billionaire Naguib Sawiris, has invested in Insitro, a biotech group. HOF was one of 14 investors committing $400 million to the San Francisco-based group. 

Laurene Powell Jobs’ impact-led investment group Emerson Collective has invested in Unite Us, a healthcare platform. Emerson was one of seven investors committing $150 million to the New York City-based group. 

Invus, a New York City-based investment business backed by Eric Wittouck, one of Belgium’s richest individuals, together with Laurene Powell Jobs’ Emerson Collective, have invested in ElevateBio, a biotech group. The two investors joined 12 others in an investment worth $525 million for the Cambridge, Massachusetts-based group. 

Series E 

WndrCo, and Los Angeles-based investment group set up by Jeffrey Katzenberg, a film producer and media owner, has invested in Airtable, a cloud-based software company. WndrCo was one of five investors committing $270 million to the San Francisco-based group.  

Series F 

PremjiInvest, Azim Premji’s family office, together with PSP Growth, part of PSP Capital Partners, the private investment group owned by Penny Pritzker, have invested in Icertis, an AI-powered contract management platform. The two investors with four other investors committed $80 million to the Washington State-based group. 

Valar Ventures, an investment firm linked to Peter Thiel, Breyer Capital, Jim Breyer’s investment group, and Pomp Investments, owned by investor Anthony Pompliano, have invested in BlockFi, a cryptocurrency lending platform. The three investors joined 18 others in a commitment worth $350 million for the Jersey City-based group.
