This week’s family/private investment office deals

Private Equity

EQT, the private equity group backed by the Wallenberg family of Sweden, has invested in DESOTEC, a mobile industrial filtration technology group. EQT invested an unspecified amount into the business. 

Valor Capital, an investment group/fund owned by Clifford Sobel, a former US ambassador to Brazil, together with Breyer Capital, Jim Breyer’s investment group, and Willett Advisors, the investment office of Michael Bloomberg, have invested in Circle, a fintech platform. The three investors were among 11 committing $440 million to the Boston-based group. 

Unspecified Rounds

DIG Investment, a Swedish investment group owned by Martin Söderström and his wife Charlotte Söderström, one of the three children of Stefan Persson, Sweden’s richest individual and the owner of the retail group H&M, has invested in Dirac, a digital media group. DIG was one of two investors committing SEK150 million to the Swedish group.   

Bonnier Ventures, the corporate venturing arm of the family-owned publishing group Bonnier, which is owned by the Bonnier family, together with Skabholmen Invest, a Swedish investment group owned by the Pettersson family, have invested in Doktor.se, a digital healthcare provider. The two investors joined five others in a commitment worth €50 million for the Swedish group. 

Seed

Omidyar Network India, the Indian branch of Omidyar Network, the investment group owned by Pierre and Pam Omidyar, has invested in FarMart, a micro-SaaS platform that helps food businesses source high quality produce at affordable prices. Omidyar was one of four investors seeding the Indian startup with INR177 million

EQT Ventures, the venture fund backed by the Wallenberg family of Sweden, has invested in Vev, a visual editor for creatives to build interactive websites. EQT was one of three investors seeding the Norwegian group with €5 million. 

Skip Capital, the private investment office of the Australian tech billionaire Scott Farquhar, has invested in Pyn, a human resources company. Skip was one of five investors seeding the Australian group with $8 million. 

Serena Ventures, Serena Williams investment group, has invested in Infinite Objects, a creative video prints platform. Serena Ventures was one of 15 investors seeding the New York City-based group with $6 million. 

Kamunting Street Capital, a former hedge fund of Allan Teh that converted into a family office in 2015, has invested in Defined, a data platform. Kamunting was one of 10 investors committing $2.5 million to the Canadian startup.  

Picus Capital, an investment group owned by Germany tech entrepreneur and billionaire Alexander Samwer, has invested in Paytron, a fintech platform. Picus was among two investors committing A$3 million to the Australian startup. 

Series A 

Zinal Growth, the family office of Guillaume Pousaz, the founder and CEO of Checkout.com, has invested in Wayflyer, a fintech platform. Zinal was one of five investors committing $76 million to the Irish group. 

Series B

Mutschler Ventures, owned by Sylvie Mutschler-von Specht, a member of the family shareholders of Hamburg-based Berenberg Bank, has invested in Ada Health, a German healthcare group. More details here. 

Breyer Capital, Jim Breyer’s investment group, has invested in Homeward, a real estate platform. Breyer Capital was one of six investors committing $136 million to the Austin-based group. 

L Catterton Asia, the Asian subsidiary of L Catterton, a private equity group backed by the Arnault family, owners of LVMH, has invested in Zenyum, which provides 3D-printed. L Catterton was one of seven investors committing $40 million to the Singapore-based group.  

Series C

F-Prime Capital, the Johnson family of Fidelity fame investment group, has invested in Pulmocide, a biotech group. F-Prime Capital was one of nine investors committing $92 million to the UK-based group. 

Bezos Expeditions, Jeff Bezos’ investment group, has invested in Chipper Cash, a fintech platform. Bezos Expeditions was one of eight investors committing $100 million to the San Francisco-based group. 

Soros Fund Management, the former hedge fund, now family office of George Soros, together with Tarsadia Investments, an investment group owned by the US-based Patel family, have invested in Yieldstreet, an asset management platform. The two investors were among 10 investors committing $100 million to the New York City-based group. 

Horizons Ventures, Li Ka-shing’s investment group, has invested in Wefox, a digital insurance company. Horizons was one of 25 investors committing $650 million to the Berlin-based group.  

Series D 

EQT, the private equity group backed by the Wallenberg family of Sweden, together with Willoughby Capital, Daniel Och’s family office, have invested in Bought By Many, a pet InsurTech platform. The two investors were among six investors committing $650 million into the London-based group. 

Eldridge, an investment group set up by billionaire Todd Boehly, Cota Capital, a private investment/venture fund owned by Bobby Yazdani, and Bessemer Venture Partners, part of the multi-family office Bessemer Trust, have invested in Truebill, a personal finance app. The three investors joined one other in an investment worth $45 million for the Maryland-based group.  

Series E 

LTS Investments, a Brazil-based based investment office owned by billionaires Jorge Paulo Lemann, Marcel Herrmann Telles, and Carlos Alberto Sicupira, has invested in QuintoAndar, a real estate platform. LTS was one of nine investors committing $3oo million to the Brazilian group.
