This week’s family/private investment office deals

Post-IPO Equity

Aquilo Capital Management, an investment group owned by US investor Marc Schneidman, has invested in Pieris Pharmaceuticals. Aquilo was one of five investors committing $32 million to the US-based group. 

Private Equity

Nolan Capital, the family office of Peter Nolan, has acquired a majority stake in Ortega National Parks, a hospitality organisation serving national, state and county parks across the US. Terms of the transaction weren’t disclosed. 

Unspecified Round

Kayenne Venture, a venture group linked to the Fabiani Family Investment Office, which is owned by the Indian Fabiani family, has invested in Svasti Microfinance, which provides finance to slum dwellers in India. Also backing the $10 million investment was the Nordic Microfinance Initiative, which is backed by the Norwegian-based Ferd, the family office of Johan Andresen, and one other investor. 

Beacon Capital, a New York City-based private investment office owned by the Torres Kaufman family, has invested in Chaser, which helps businesses get their invoices paid on time. Beacon was one of four investors committing $4 million to the UK-based group.

Pritzker Group Venture Capital, part of the Pritzker Group, which is owned by J.B. Pritzker, has invested in Apervita, a healthcare data analytics platform. Pritzker along with Levy Family Partners, which is owned by Larry Levy, and five other investors, committed $22 million to the US-based group. 

Inbox Capital, which is owned by the Swedish Wattin family, has invested in Zaver, a Swedish fintech platform. Inbox invested SEK20 million ($2 million) alongside Magus Rausing, a scion of the Rausing family, one of Europe’s wealthiest dynasties, and two other investors. 

Inbox Capital has also invested in VOI Technology, which owns, operates, and manages electric scooters. Inbox was one of nine investors committing $55 million to the Stockholm-based group.  

Seed

Goldacre, a UK private investment office owned by the Leo Noe and his family, has invested $650,000 in ShapeDo, a construction software platform based in Israel. 

Leo Capital Holdings, an investment group owned by US-based investor Randy Rissman, has invested in LambdaTest, a cloud computing platform. Leo and one other investor committed $2 million to the US-based startup.

Pritzker Group Venture Capital (see above for ownership data) has invested in Nowaday, a storytelling platform. Pritzker was one of three investors committing $3.5 million to the US-based group. 

Series A 

Apoletto Managers, a fund backed by the Hong Kong-based Russian billionaire Yuri Milner, has invested in Lori Systemes, a logistics platform based in Kenya. Apoletto together with nine other investors committed $30 million to Lori Systems. 

Taubman Capital, private investment owned by the billionaire Taubman family, has invested in Two Hat Security, a cybersecurity platform. Taubman was one of three investors committing $7.5 million to the Canadian group. 

Lerer Hippeau, an investment company/fund owned by father and son entrepreneurs Ken and Ben Lerer, has invested in Loop Returns, an e-commerce platform. Lerer was one of three investors committing $10 million to the US-based group.

Series B

Kairos Ventures, an investment group owned by Jim Demetriades, has invested in Actuate Therapeutics, a biotech group. Kairos was one of three investors committing $6.3 billion to the US-based group. 

Series C

Euclidean Capital, the investment office of hedge fund legend, Jim Simons, has invested in PMV Pharmaceuticals, a biotech group. Euclidean was one of eight investors committing $62 million to the US-based group.
