This week’s family/private investment office deals

Keeping with Family Capital’s focus on cybersecurity investing this week, our Deal of the Week involves a Belgian family holding group backing an Israeli cybersecurity firm. More details here. 

Unspecified Rounds

WestCap, an investment group owned by US-based Laurence Tosi, has invested in Hopper, a Canadian travel app. WestCap led the round, which was worth $70 million; five other investors participated.  

Claridge Israel – a joint venture between Claridge, the family office of Stephen Bronfman, and Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec, a pension fund, has invested in Israeli-based Cyberbit. Claridge Israel was one of two investors committing $70 million to the group.  

Sweat Equities, an investment office owned by US-based investor Charlie Sweat, together with McLean Family Farms, a family office owned by the Florida-based McLean family, have invested in Citrus Extracts, which specializes in dehydrating citrus peel primarily for use by food and beverage manufactures. The two investors along with one other committed an undisclosed sum to the Florida-based group. 

Blue Horizon Ventures, an investment group owned by US entrepreneur and investor Roger Lienhard, has invested in Cubiq Foods, a cell-based fats maker. Blue Horizon invested €5 million in the Barcelona group.

Series A

Rinkelberg Capital, the London-based investment office of Corinne Vigreux who co-founded the Dutch consumer electronics company TomTom, has invested in Growth Tribe, an ed-tech platform. Rinkelberg committed €3 million to the Amsterdam-based group. 

Goodwell Investments, a Dutch-based sustainable investment group set up by Wim van der Beek, has invested in Tomato Jos, a Nigerian agricultural platform. Goodwell led the round, which was worth €3.9 million; two others participated. 

Series C 

Access Industries, the US-based holding and investment group owned by Len Blavatnik, has invested in DigitalOcean, a cloud simplify app created for developers. Access led the $50 million round into the New York City-based group; one other investor participated. 

Series D 

H14, an investment group controlled by the Italian Berlusconi family, has invested in Contentsquare, a Paris software-as-a-service e-commerce platform. H14 was one of eight investors committing $190 million to the group. 

EQT Ventures, the Wallenberg family-backed listed venture group, has invested in Wolt, a food delivery company. EQT was one of five investors committing $108 million to the Helsinki-based group.
