This week’s family/private investment office deals

Family Capital’s Deal of the Week involves a crypto-asset lending platform backed by some high-profile principal investment groups. More details here. 

Post-IPO Equity

L Catterton, a private equity group with close links to Groupe Arnault, the family-owned holding company of the Arnaults, has invested in Despegar, a travel agency group. L Catterton committed $150 million to the Buenos Aires-based group. 

Private Equity

Newlight Partners, a private equity group owned by George Soros, has invested in Propeller Industries, an accounting and investment group. Newlight committed an undisclosed sum to the San Francisco-based group. 

Seed

Dig Ventures, an investment group owned by Ross Mason, who founded MuleSoft, a San Francisco based software company, has invested in Apheris AI, a network security platform. Dig was one of eight investors committing €2.5 million to the Berlin-based group. 

Esther Dyson, probably through her investment group, EDventure Holdings, has invested in Humanity, a healthcare company that aims to extend the healthspan of humans. Dyson and one other investor seeded the Boston-based group with $2.5 million. 

Series C 

St Baker Australian Family Office, an Australian-based family investment group owned by Trevor Charles St Baker, has invested in Songtradr, an online marketplace for digital entertainment. St Baker committed $30 million to the Los Angeles-based group. 

Boxer Capital, an investment office owned by UK billionaire Joe Lewis, has invested in Connect Biopharmaceuticals. Boxer was one of five investors committing $115 million to China-based biotech group. 

Sorenson Ventures, an investment group backed by the Utah-based Sorenson family, has invested in Socure, a predictive analytics platform for digital identity verification. Sorenson was led the $35 million round for the New York City-based group; six other investors participated.

Series D 

Casdin Capital, Eli Casdin’s New York City-based investment group, has invested in Lyra, a healthcare group. Casdin was one of 10 investors committing $110 million to the San Francisco-based group.
