This week’s family/private investment office deals

Loans

Zoma Capital, a private investment office founded by Lucy Ana Walton and husband Ben Walton, of the Walton family, owners of Walmart, has led a family office investor group financing a senior secured loan worth $200 million for Apex Clean Energy. The Charlottesville, Virginia-based group develops, constructs, and operates utility-scale wind and solar power facilities across North America.

RWM Management, the investment office of Marc Rowan, co-founder of Apollo Global Management, along with Mast Capital, a Florida-based real estate investment group, have provided $30.5 million to refinance Little Palm Island Resort & Spa, a luxury resort located on a private island in the Florida Keys, according to local reports. 

Unspecified Rounds

Blisce, the family office of French/US entrepreneur Alexandre Mars, has invested in Too Good To Go, a food waste management platform. Blisce committed $31.1 million to the London-based group. 

Winklevoss Capital, the investment group of the Winklevoss brothers, has invested in TaxBit, a cryptocurrency tax platform. Winklevoss Capital was one of three investors committing an unspecified amount to the Utah-based group. 

Wecken, a Swiss-based investment group owned by Klaus Wecken, has invested in Jedox, a SaaS platform. Wecken was one of four investors committing an unspecified amount to the German-based group. 

Bregal Milestone, which is part of Cofra Holdings group owned by Brenninkmeijer family, has invested in M-Files, a cloud computing platform. Bregal was one of four investors committing €67 million to the Texas-based group. 

Seed

Delin Ventures, a London-based investment group owned by Igor Linshits, has invested in Turbine, a biotech group. Delin was one of six investors committing €5.7 million to the Budapest-based startup. 

Horizons Ventures, Li Ka-shing’s venture investment group, has invested in Xampla, which creates plant protein material for commercial use. Horizons provided €6.8 million of seed finance for the UK-based startup. 

Pamica, an investment company owned by Belgian investor Michel Akkermans, has invested in b.fine, a fintech platform. Pamica committed €1 million to the Brussels-based group. 

Tiny Capital, a Canadian venture group believed to be backed by Bill Ackman’s family office Table Management, has invested in SoleSavy, a sneaker company. Tiny was one of nine investors committing $2 million to the startup.

Series A

Invus, a New York City-based investment business backed by Eric Wittouck, one of Belgium’s richest individuals, together with PBM Capital Group, an investment group owned by US investor Paul Manning, have invested in LEXEO Therapeutics, a biotech group. The two were among nine investors committing $85 million to the New York City-based group. 

Horizons Ventures, Li Ka-shing’s venture investment group, has invested in Ajaib, an Indonesian fintech group. Horizons was one of five investors committing $25 million to the group. Horizons joint led the round. 

EMESA Corporación, an investment/holding group owned by Spanish lawyer and entrepreneur Emili Cuatrecasas, has invested in Devicare, a biotech group. EMESA was one of four investors committing $3 million to the Barcelona-based group. 

F-Prime Capital, the Johnson family, owners of Fidelity, backed venture group, has invested in Atalanta Therapeutics, a Boston-based biotech group. F-Prime committed $110 million to Atalanta. 

WestCap, an investment group owned by US-based investor Laurence Tosi, has invested in Zupee, a gaming app. WestCap was one of two investors committing $10 million to the India-based group; WestCap led the round. 

Pritzker Group, which is owned by J.B. Pritzker, has invested in Dina Care, a healthcare group. Pritzker Group was one of four investors committing $7 million to the Chicago-based group.  

Series B 

Baron Capital, an investment fund owned by New York financier Ron Baron, has invested in Resident, a furniture e-commerce platform. Baron was one of three investors committing $130 million to the Mountain View, California-based group. 

Boxer Capital, an investment office owned by UK billionaire Joe Lewis, along with Invus, a New York City-based investment business backed by Eric Wittouck, one of Belgium’s richest individuals, have invested in Scorpion Therapeutics, a biotech group. The two investors joined 13 other investors committing $162 million to the Boston-based group. Boxer joint led the round.

Laurene Powell Jobs’ Emerson Collective has invested in Syndio Solutions, an HR analytics platform. Emerson was one of five investors committing $17.1 million to the Seattle-based group.

Series C

Red Circle Investments, the family office of Italian fashion entrepreneur Renzo Rosso, has led a $41 million funding round for fresh food delivery business Cortilia. Rosso is a fashion billionaire best known for turning Diesel into a global jeans brand. Red Circle, started in 2011, is backer to e-commerce businesses whose activities include eyewear and brand promotion.  Rosso’s son Stefano has been involved in Red Circle, alongside his own businesses and family ventures, which include a refinancing of Italy’s LR Vicenza Vertus football club.

YF Capital (Yunfeng Capital), an investment group owned by Jack Ma and David Yu, founders of Alibaba, has invested in Horizon Robotics, which makes robots. YF was one of 12 investors committing $400 million to the Beijing-based group. 

Vulcan Capital, the Seattle-based investment group owned by Jody Allen, has invested in Curve, a fintech platform. Vulcan was one of five investors committing $95 million to the London-based group. 

Ziff Capital Partners, an investment group owned by the New York City-based Ziff family, has invested in Affinivax, a biotech group. Ziff was one of 13 investors committing $226 million to the Cambridge, Massachusett-based group. 

Series D 

Tal Capital, a New Delhi-based investment group owned by Neeru Kumar, a textile businesswoman, has invested in Rapyd, a payments platform. Tal was one of 12 investors committing $300 million to the London-based group.
