European family offices lag their US counterparts when it comes to backing local venture groups. Either they are too risk-averse to invest directly – they do funds instead – or they invest mostly in the US, where the opportunities are much greater. But some are more than pulling their weight and committing sizable sums to European startups and tech companies.
