Swiss family office backs personalised cancer startup after founder’s brain tumour

A family office owned by a former brain tumour patient has funded a Swiss cancer diagnostic startup in an effort to provide better-personalised cancer care.

GF Group Holding, based in Cham, a town on Lake Zurich, and owned by Guido Fluri, who made his fortune in real estate, has backed Oncobit. The Zurich-based startup is developing personalized cancer care through the use of highly sensitive diagnostic and monitoring tests.

GF Group along with Avanteca Partners seeded Oncobit with CHF2.3 million ($2.5 million) of capital. Avanteca was set up at the end of last year in Basel, Switzerland by Christian Schilling, a former senior manager for the German pharmaceutical group, Boehringer Ingelheim.

Fluri was diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2007, which was successfully removed nine years later.
