This week’s family/private investment office deals

Unspecified Rounds

Perot Jain, an investment group set up by  Ross Perot Jr. and Anurag Jain, has invested in Paravision, a cybersecurity group. Perot Jain was one of seven investors committing $23 million to the San Francisco-based group. 

Vulcan Capital, Jody Allen’s investment group, has invested in LumaTax, a software company. Vulcan was one of six investors committing $4 million to the Seattle-based group. 

Seed

HBSE Ventures, an investment group owned by Joshua Harris and David Blitzer, prominent private equity specialists, has invested in Arcturus, a gaming platform. HBSE Ventures was one of six investors committing $5 million to the Beverly Hills-based startup. 

Presight Capital, a New York City-based venture group owned by German investor Christian Angermayer, has invested in Una Brands, an e-commerce platform. Presight was one of six investors committing $40 million to the Singapore-based startup.

Reddy Futures, an investment group owned by the Indian-based Reddy family, who own the conglomerate, GVK, has invested in Rulezero, a technology platform to manage equity ownership of a startup. Reddy was one of four investors committing INR100 million to the Indian startup. 

Dolby Family Ventures, Dave Dolby’s investment group, has invested in Therini Bio. Dolby was one of six investors committing $17 million to the San Francisco startup. More details here. 

Pentland Ventures, a corporate venturing group owned by the UK-based Ruben family, has invested in GEM, a vitamin made with natural food ingredients that metabolize and absorbs effectively. Pentland was one of three investors committing $10.5 million to the Los Angeles-based startup. 

Series A 

TD Veen, an investment group set up by Norwegian Tor Dagfinn Veen, has invested in iSize Technologies, a deep learning platform for video delivery. TD Veen was one of two investors committing £4.5 million to the London-based group

CEAS Investments, a Delray, Florida-based investment office owned by Leslie Alexander, a billionaire entrepreneur and financier who previously owned the National Basketball Association side, the Houston Rockets, has invested in CognitOps, a warehouse management group. CEAS was one of five investors committing $11 million to the Austin, Texas group. 

Max Ventures, a New York City-based venture group backed by members of the Swedish Stenbeck family, has invested in Vori Health, a biotech group. Max was one of three investors committing $45 million to the San Francisco-based group. 

MPL Ventures, Paul McCartney’s recently set up investment group, has invested in Yoto, a screen-free audio platform for kids. MPL was one of six investors committing $17 million to the London-based group.

FreeFlow Ventures, a Californian investment group set up by Kevin Barrett, a healthcare executive, has invested in Appia Bio, a biotech group. FreeFlow was one of four investors committing $52 million to the Los Angeles-based group.

Forestay Capital, a venture group owned by Swiss billionaire Ernesto Bertarelli, has invested in Howspace, an ed-tech platform. Forestay was one of two investors committing €12 million to the Finland-based group. 

Series B 

EQT Ventures, the Wallenberg family-backed venture fund, has invested in Airkit, a customer engagement platform. EQT was one of four investors committing $40 million to the Palo Alto-based group. 

Geneva-based Celeste Management, an investment office owned by a member of the Louis-Dreyfus family, and Ronald Strässler, the co-founder of financial tech group Avaloq, and probably through his investment group, Rimsalai Holdings, have invested in bNovate Technologies, a biotech group. The two investors committed CHF5 million to the Swiss group. 

Max Ventures, a New York City-based venture group backed by members of the Swedish Stenbeck family, has invested in Heartbeat Health, a healthcare group. Max was one of eight investors committing $20 million to the New York City-based group. 

Soros Fund Management, George Soros’s investment group, and EQT Ventures, have invested in Einride, an electric and autonomous freight tech company. The two investors joined eight others in a commitment worth $110 million for the Swedish group.  

Boxer Capital, a biotech investment group owned by UK billionaire Joe Lewis, has invested in Nuvalent, a biotech group. Boxer was one of 12 investors committing $135 million to the Cambridge, Massachusetts-based group. 

Series C 

Pawan Munjal Family Trust, an investment group set up by Pawan Munjal, who is part of the family that owns the Hero Group in India, has invested in Rapido, an online bike taxi aggregator and logistics service. Pawan was one of nine investors committing INR3.2billion to the Indian group. 

E.R. Capital Holding, a German-based holding and investment group owned by Erck Rickmers, has invested in AMSilk, which produces and distributes high-quality silk biopolymers for the healthcare sector. E.R. Capital Holdings was one of five investors committing €29 million to the German group. 

Burst Capital, an investment group owned by US-based tech entrepreneur Geoff Donaker, has invested in Ada, an automated customer experience company. Burst was one of seven investors committing $130 million to the Toronto-based group.  

Webb Investment Network, the investment office of US-based Maynard Webb, has invested in Legion Technologies, an AI-powered workforce management platform. Webb Investment was one of six investors committing $50 million to the Redwood City, California-based group.  

Series D

EQT Ventures, the Wallenberg family-backed venture fund, has invested in Holidu, which is building a search engine for vacation rentals. EQT was one of six investors committing $45 million to the Munich-based group. 

Series E

EQT Ventures together with Omidyar Network, Pierre and Pam Omidyar’s investment group, and the Emerson Collective, Laurene Powell Jobs’ impact-led investment group, have invested in Handshake, a college career network platform. The three investors joined nine others in a commitment worth $80 million for the San Francisco-based group.
