This week’s family/private investment office deals

Private Equity

MSD Capital, Michael Dell’s family office, has invested in Cue Health, a healthcare group. MSD was among seven investors committing $235 million to the group. 

Unspecified Rounds

Baron Capital, an investment fund owned by New York financier Ron Baron, together with Louis Bacon’s investment group, Moore Strategic Ventures, have invested in Pine Labs, a fintech group. The two investors along with six others committed $285 million to the Indian group. 

Octava, a Singapore family office owned by an unknown family, has invested in Animoca Brands, a gaming platform. Octava was one of 11 investors committing $88.1 million to the Hong Kong-based group. 

Seed

Mutschler Ventures, a Swiss-based investment group owned by Sylvie Mutschler-von Specht, a member of the family shareholders of Hamburg-based Berenberg Bank, and Adinvest, an investment group owned by Swiss-based investor Neil Sunderland, have invested in Invenda Group, a software group. Mutschler and Adinvest were among three seeding the startup with CHF2 million. 

Series A 

Invus, a New York City-based investment business backed by Eric Wittouck, one of Belgium’s richest individuals, has invested in Flare Therapeutics, a biotech group. Invus was one of six investors committing $82 million to the Cambridge, Massachusetts-based group. 

Boxer Capital, a biotech investment group owned by billionaire Joe Lewis, has invested in Flare Therapeutics, a biotech group. Boxer was one of six investors committing $82 million to the Cambridge, Massachusetts-based group. 

Max Ventures, a New York City-based venture group backed by members of the Swedish Stenbeck, has invested in Kaiyo, an e-commerce platform for pre-owned furniture. Max was one of three investors committing $5 million to the New York City-based group. 

Delin Ventures, a London-based investment group owned by Igor Linshits, has invested in Agile Analog, a semiconductor group. Delin was one of four investors committing $19 million to the UK-based group. 

Financiere Saint James, the Paris-based investment office of Michael Benabou, has invested in Regate, a SaaS business platform. Saint James was one of three investors committing €7 million to the group. 

Series B 

Two family offices: PilotRock Investments and Sandia Holdings, have invested in PolySign, a crypto platform. More details here

Horizons Ventures, Li Ka-shing’s investment group, has invested in Bad Robot Games, a PC gaming platform. Horizons was one of four investors committing $40 million to the Californian-based group. 

Venrock, the US venture fund owned by the Rockefeller family, has invested in Altruist, a fintech group. Venrock was one of three investors committing $50 million to the Californian-based group. 

Series C 

Invus, a New York City-based investment business backed by Eric Wittouck, one of Belgium’s richest individuals, has invested in Escale, an e-commerce group. Invus was one of three investors committing R$146.2 million to the Brazilian group. 

Euclidean Capital, Jim Simons family office, and HOF Capital, owned by members of the Egyptian billionaire Sawiris family, have invested in ASAPP, an AI-powered customer service tool designed to automate workflows in call centres. The two investors were among 10 committing $120 million to the New York City-based group. 

Prelude Ventures, Nat Simons impact-led investment group, has invested in Voltus, an energy efficiency group. Prelude was one of four investors committing $31 million to the San Francisco-based group. 

Series D 

Invus, a New York City-based investment business backed by Eric Wittouck, one of Belgium’s richest individuals, and WestCap, an investment group owned by Laurence Tosi, have invested in Amount, a fintech group. The two investors were among five committing $99 million to the Chicago-based group.

Paris-based Aglaé Ventures, owned by the Arnault family, has invested in Back Market, a consumer electronics group. Aglaé was one of six investors committing $335 million to the Paris-based group. 

Series F

Eldridge, Todd Boehly’s investment group, together with Ronald Lauder Ventures, and Bonnier Ventures, the corporate venturing arm of the family-owned Bonnier publishing business, have invested in MasterClass, an Edtech platform. The three investors together with 15 others committed $225 million to the San Francisco-based group.
