Unspecified Round

40 North Ventures, an investment group owned by David Winter and David Millstone, who run and own Standard Industries, a New York City-based holdings and investment group, has invested in Superior Sensor Technology, which is developing a new generation of sensors. 40 North Ventures committed $4.5 million to the Californian-based group. 

Belgian-based Scorpiaux, the financial holding company of real estate entrepreneur Bart Versluys, Saffelberg Investments, an investment office owned by Jos Sluys, and Nomainvest, a holding company owned by the Noël family, have invested in Hyloris Pharmaceuticals, a biotech group. The three investors together with one other committed €15 million to the Belgian-based group. 

Claridge Israel, an investment group set up by Canadian billionaire Stephen Bronfman, has invested in GigaSpaces Technologies, a big data analytics company. Claridge was one of three investors committing $12 million to the New York City-based group. 

Webb Investment Network, the investment office of Maynard Webb, has invested in Vida Health, a virtual healthcare platform. Webb together with six other investors committed $25 million to the San Francisco-based group. 

Seed

Peak Capital, an Amsterdam-based investment group owned by Heleen Dura van Oord, who is a member of the family who owns the huge Dutch dredging company Van Oord, has backed GraphCMS, a German-based content management platform. Peak led the round worth €2.5 million; one other investor participated.  

Trog Hawley Capital, a Florida-based investment office owned by the Ryan family, has invested in Adfone, a savings and rewards technology platform. Trog was one of three investors committing $7.5 million to the Florida-based startup. 

JG Griffeth Investments, an investment office owned by a Georgia-based investor John Griffeth, has invested in MEDcraze, a healthcare platform. JG Griffeth invested $3 million in the Georgia-based startup. 

Series A 

New York City-based Beni VC, part of family investment group Beni Internazionali USA, which is owned by the Campagnoli family, has backed Contraline, a biotech group. Beni was one of two backers committing an undisclosed amount to the  Virginia-based group

Skip Capital, the private investment office of the Australian tech billionaire Scott Farquhar, has invested in Qwilr, a provider of automation tool for sales teams. Skip led the round, worth $7.3 million, with two other investors; three others participated in the round for the Australian-based group.   

Holt Ventures, which is owned by the Holt family who were behind the development of Caterpillar Inc., together with Coventry Asset Management, an investment group owned by Gen Fukunaga, the founder and former CEO of Funimation Entertainment, have invested in ZAF Energy Systems, which is developing battery technology. Holt Ventures and Coventry were two of four investors committing $22 million to the Montana-based group. 

The Chaifetz Group, the investment office of Richard Chaifetz, has invested in TimeDoc Health, a healthcare platform. Chaifetz Group was one of eight investors committing $5.7 million to the Chicago-based group. 

Series B 

Euclidean Capital, the investment office of hedge fund billionaire Jim Simons, has invested in Dascena, which is developing machine learning algorithms to enable early disease intervention. Euclidean was one of three investors committing $50 million to the Californian-based group.  

Barry Sternlicht, likely through his investment group Starwood Capital, has invested in Material Bank, an architectural and design-focused material resource library. Sternlicht joined two other investors committing $28 million to the New York City-based group. 

Series C 

Omidyar Network, the investment group of Pierre and Pam Omidyar, has invested in Pratilipi, a digital media platform. Omidyar together with four other investors have committed INR706.8 million ($9.3 million) to the Indian-based group. 

Prelude Ventures, Nat Simons impact-led investment group, together with Breakthrough Energy Ventures, the Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos, and Jack Ma backed clean energy initiative, have invested in Pivot Bio, which is developing advances in crop nutrition. The two investors together with 10 others committed $100 million to the Californian group. 

Series D 

Valar Ventures, which is backed by tech investor Peter Thiel, has invested in N26, a fintech platform. Valar committed $100 million to the Berlin-based group.
