This week’s family/private investment office deals

Our Deal of the Week involves two family capital-led investors backing a Swiss cosmetics/biotech group. More details here. 

Seed 

Westly Group, an investment group owned by US investor Steve Westly, has invested in  Optimal Dynamics, an AI logistics platform. Westerly was one of six investors committing $3.9 million to the New York City-based group.  

Series A  

4FO Ventures, a venture capital group owned by Andre Hoffmann, whose family own a big chunk of pharmaceutical group Roche, has invested in Scailyte, a data-driven biomarker discovery and single-cell precision diagnostics group. 4FO joined three other investors in a SF3.1 million investment in the Swiss-based group. 

F-Prime Capital, the Johnson family-backed venture group, has backed NFlection, which focuses on the development of novel therapies to address the needs of patients with neurofibromatosis type 1. F-Prime led the round with one other investor, which was worth $20 million for the Cambridge, Massachusetts-based group. 

Casdin Capital, an investment group owned by New York City-based Eli Casdin, has invested in C2i Genomics, which provides cloud-based cancer diagnostic services. Casdin led the $12 million round in the New York City-based group, with two others participating.  

Sorenson Ventures, an investment group owned by the Utah-based Sorenson family, has invested in NS8, a group focusing on online fraud detection and prevention. Sorenson was one of four investors committing $123 million to the Las Vegas-based group. 

Chalfen Ventures, a UK-based investment group owned by Mike Chalfen, has invested in RYTER, a  Berlin-based no-code platform to automate expert knowledge. Chalfen was one of five investors in a round worth $16 million. 

Series B 

Pritzker Group Venture Capital, part of the Pritzker Group, which is owned by J.B. Pritzker, has invested in Journera, a travel tech platform. Pritzker was one of four investors committing $11.6 million to the Chicago-based group.  

Agronomics, a listed food investment group founded by Richard Reed, a UK-based entrepreneur who co-founded Innocent Drinks before selling it to the Coca-Cola Company, has invested in Tropic Biosciences, which is developing high-performing commercial tropical crop varieties and traits. Agronomics was one of eleven investors committing $28.5 million to the London-based group. 

Sahsen Ventures, an investment group owned by Bryan White, a former hedge fund manager, together with private equity billionaire Richard Kayne, probably through the Kayne Family Office, have invested in Athira Pharma, a clinical-stage drug development company. The two investors joined 14 others in an $85 million round for the Seattle-based group.
