A surge in real estate loan maturities will hit family office investors

The US real estate market is about to be hit by a deluge of commercial real estate loan maturities in the last quarter of 2023, potentially leading to pockets of distress for family office investors. According to its Mortgage Bankers Association, $1.9 trillion of loan maturities are expected between now and the end of 2025, the first wave of which is due by Halloween, in October this year.
